WGGS members and guests enjoyed a remarkable program at the May 10, 2014 membership meeting. Mr. Ken Sereno began with a series of slides showing places around Morris, Mazon, Verona and other locations in Grundy County, Illinois, many of which no longer exist or have been repurposed. There were images of industry, church, school and commercial districts, life on the Illinois River, and the extensive growth that has taken place around Morris, the county seat of Grundy County. He is a lifelong resident of the area, having lived in both Verona and Morris, Illinois and has a passion for local history. Mr. Sereno is active with the Grundy County Area Historical Society, has served on its board and frequently volunteers his time and expertise at events and with special historical projects throughout the community. Following his presentation, Mr. Sereno took many questions from the audience, and could have spent more time doing so, but we couldn't have the room for that long! Thank you, Mr. Sereno, a great time was had by all!
